Busy time of year with chores and work , but to fill the void now that turkey season is over ... I still get out to scout new locations for the fall turkey hunt and deer season as well ... then of course there is some varmint managment from farm to farm .
Got this cool picture of a group of jakes at one farm ... didn't realize I got a deer in the background at the same time .
A nice buck track at the river flats ...
And a quick snap shot of him running the field length when he busts out of the cover close to me ... turns out he was bedded with two other deer and must have watched me walk by , then busted when I paused to take a picture of the track .. one yound buck jumped the fence to my left and this buck ran with a small spike straight down the middle of the field .. picture quality is so , so cause I had my small pocket camera .
This doe walked out of the bush and across the farm lane as I headed back for some ground hogs ... I got out of the truck when I saw her come out the bush line to my right ... the truck was behind a hill , the wind was in my favor and I snapped a few frames as she crossed in front of me ... you can tell she could hear the camera advance frame and she looked all around , but she thought the noise was coming from behind her and never did see me hiding in plain sight !
All the way back to the end of the lane , then walked field edges for ground hogs .
I spent most of the time thinnin the ground hog population from farm to farm with my 25.06 ...
But one day Pydpiper let me take his .204 for a walk and I truly discoverd what long distance varmint sniping is all about !! Man , what a swwwweeeeeet shooting rig , that is ! Here are two of the three I let the air out of that day ... ( last one was a monster hog ! )
Won't be long before we are chasing long necks in the Sept early season and back after whitetails in October ! ... Enjoy your summer all !
