Sako, Spike and some turkeys
Too nice a day to do chores ... took a walk with the dogs .
Sako is the Weimaraner that I mentioned earlier ... He will be 8 years old in May ... I got him from a family that had him since he was a pup , but he recently had a " near miss " biting incident with one of the young girls in that family .
The family loved him so much , they were hoping to place him rather then have him put down .... I drove to meet them last month and after a teary eyed good bye from them , Sako was passed on to me ( we had heard about each other through mutual friends ) ..
He took a couple of weeks to get settled in ( as would be expected ) ... we are working together to iron out the bugs in his demenor ... but it seems to be going well so far ..
Sako and Spike have adjusted to each other ... the first week they ran around covering each others pee spots ... until they could " pee no more "
Today we walked the property boundary ... Sako is usually in " high gear " !
I don't have any pheasants out , but he doesn't miss an opportunity to lock up and point some " mouse scent "
Spike lags behind and stiops occationally to watch Sako point ... mimicing his posture ...
Near the end of the walk , I saw some turkeys cutting thru the bush to a corn stubble field to the South ... I put the dogs away ... hussled ahead of their travel path , and used some fence row cover to hunker in and get these few frames ...
The young birds got in real close till they firgured something was up ...
I got a few frames as part of the group fed away from me ... Lots of people tell me " you got tons of turkeys on your property " ! .... But I only saw one " long beard " in the entire group ...
Hope he stays around for the spring hunt !
