Many of you are familiar with our pet turkey " Gus "
He was a local celebrity , and I use to get razzed by the neighbors , when they drove by the farm and saw him walking behind my lawn tractor or following me around while I did other chores ...
He gave myself ,family , and freinds hours of comic relief ... not to mention that awsome proud deep gooble that rang thru the yard everyday ... ( I loved that sound )
" Gus's " girl friend passed away last month , and he grew ill over the last few days ...
Mother nature is sometimes creul , and when the fly's started at him from the back end , he became a walking meal for their young ( anyone on a farm knows what I mean )
I took him for a final walk out back , and while he was watching the dogs run ahead , it was with great sadness , I put him down tonight
Here are a few of my favorite pictures of " Gus " ... I thought I would post them in remembrence of his prouder srutting plumage moments .

And before anybody asks ... respecting my wifes wishes , I did bury him ... There was no way his thick turkey breasts were making it to our table !

Thanks all ... Yep it's been real quiet around here today ... It's going to be hard to replace "Gus" with another ... hope we get one with a similar unique personality !
I was reading an article on the net and it said that domestic Brozne turkeys ( that's what " Gus " was , can best be described as " Gentle Giants " ... and that was " Gus's " nature / personality for sure !
Last season when we had poults and the racoon wars started , " Gus " would let the last poult left of the brood , roost on his neck every night .
He will be missed ....
